Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende
Joshua Rivkin’s poems and essays have appeared in The New Yorker, Slate, The Southern Review, The Virginia Quarterly Review, and Best New Poets. A former Fulbright Scholar in Rome, Italy, as well as a Stegner Fellow in poetry, he has received awards from the Sustainable Arts Foundation, Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, and Ucross Foundation. He teaches creative writing for Stanford’s Continuing Studies and lives in Salt Lake City.

Ich bin Besitzer aller Werkverzeichnisse und der meisten Kataloge: die biografischen Informationen zu Twombly sind knapp und abstrakt. Sein zurück gezogenes Leben in Italien hat natürlich - nicht nur in mir - den Wunsch entfacht, einfach mehr über diesen tollen Künstler zu erfahren. Es fehlt das Gegengewicht zu den oft anstrengenden und leicht prätentiösen Texten von zB Heiner Bastian. Erhellende Texte wie der von Roland Barthes sind eher selten. Die offensichtlich frisierten bzw unterdrückten Hintergründe zu seiner Ehe und den Lebensumständen in Italien sind mir natürlich auch schon aufgefallen. Hier setzt der Autor mit aller Wucht dann an: Twombly war schwul. Ok, und jetzt? Wie so viele seiner Generation war er offensichtlich nicht in der Lage, offen mit seiner Sexualität umzugehen. Das war es dann aber auch schon. No big deal. Und ja, in den Bildern wimmelt es nur so von Phallie. Das Buch leidet Zunehmens an der zu starken Fokussierung auf genau diesem Thema. Des Weiteren wird die Fehde mit der Cy Twombly Foundation breit ausgerollt, anstatt Zeitgenossen/innen zu interviewen kommt er aus der Opferrolle nicht raus und verstrickt sich in einem Hin-und-Her mit dem wenig sympathischen Del Roscio... Es bleibt ein komischer Nachgeschmack und eigentlich gibt es nur Verlierer.
